I did not care for this book.   I think the story just trails off and follows its own threads for a while but they never really connect back to the main story.  And even trying to contextualize it as trying to establish Cannery Row as its own character just does not feel correct.

The book gives a slice of vibes which can attract some people.   I was indifferent to it here, but that may large be due to the use of slurs to describe the residence of the area.  They were used out of the gate.  The highlight of the book is one paragraph talking about how men of the era knew more about the Model T then female anatomy.  That joke came out of nowhere and it was well received.
