How to Kill Men and Get Away With It by Katy Brent

dark funny mysterious reflective sad tense fast-paced

4.5

How do you make a book stand out from all the others? Make its cover orange and name it this, of course! One of the lovely ladies in my local Waterstones recommended this to me after we had been chatting about how incredible the SWEET PEA series is, and is there ANYTHING better than someone saying โ€œthis book made me think of you?!

Gripping, pacy, darkly comedic, and absolutely outrageous, this was SUCH A FUN READ ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ that I absolutely flew through, and loved every second. Brent created FMC Kitty absolutely PERFECTLY. With her sarcastic, witty humour, and silent determination to rid the world of awful people, she was giving me major female Joe Goldberg vibes and I ADORED HER!๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ I meanโ€ฆ sheโ€™s a vegan influencer, that kills humans without a second thought (mostly).ย

I saw someone describe this as a mash up of SWEET PEA x MADE IN CHELSEA and this is the perfect summary. Its dark comedy crossed with psychological thriller, with a dash of romance. This may be a work of fiction, but it highlights the very real issues women face daily and the all too common โ€œyou owe me because I bought you a drinkโ€. Several difficult topics are covered throughout this, including rape, EDโ€™s, and suicide, and the second half of the plot takes a decidedly darker turn as Kitty (and her mental health) spirals.ย

Very almost on par with SWEET PEAโ€™s Rhiannon; I absolutely cannot believe this was Brentโ€™s DEBUT NOVEL๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ and Iโ€™d highly recommend reading it. (And if youโ€™ve read this, definitely check out CJ Skuseโ€™s work!)
