The White Girl by Tony Birch

4.0

A beautiful book and testament to love, hatred, and family. The interweaving of the Aboriginal experience, a topic I am not as familiar with, with Jewish refugees and Irish Catholics, along with other cultural influences present in 20th century Australia, made this a book that a global population can connect to, learn from, and appreciate.

I give this 4 stars because, while the book is beautifully written and poignant, it does very strongly have a 'man's version of a woman' type of characterization. It's not badly done, but the men are more clearly characterized and more enticing than the women. In that sense, the author's bias colors the characterization. Even so, the teachings and story still hit home.
