Body Double by Tess Gerritsen

3.0

It was a suspenseful story, which kept me hooked. I wanted to get quickly to the end to unravel the mystery. But the 'handsome' father Brophy put a brake on this. Who is Brophy? He is handsome. Does he have anything to do with the plot? Oh, he is handsome! We know since 'The Sinner' that he is handsome, so what? I like a detective novel when it is purely a detective novel and not when you add personal stories of the detectives. There is a reason I don’t read Mills and Boons and definitely I don’t want M&B kind of sub-plots popping in the otherwise interesting books. I know he is going to turn out into a major character in the series, but really don't care for these characters. I just skipped past the interactions between Isles and Brophy. Maura Isles is another addition to my long list of annoying heroines, because of her antics like a lovesick teenager.
SpoilerNone of the detectives had any role in bringing down the killer. The real hero was Mattie Purvis. I just loved her courage under overwhelming circumstances. Some things that were too hard to believe - Isles's parents continued killing pregnant women for 45 years, yet no one connected these ? and they were not caught? Why were they so careless when they killed the sisters?
