I read this series as part of Kandi’s book club and this was easily my favourite of the books in the Best Kept Secrets series! Before I get too far into this review, if you’re planning to read the first two books, then please save this for later.

Reese is still struggling with his trauma, handling it in an incredibly unproductive way. He doesn’t know how to move on from the loss of his family and after everything he went through with Charlie. He doesn’t know think he will ever be able to move on until he meets Sarah.

Sarah comes to live with her aunt and uncle after facing a horrific ordeal at school and decided that the best thing she could do is leave and never look back. She still dreams of performing at Carnegie Hall, but after an injury and the trauma she endured, she realizes that the best thing she could do is find a new teacher, and who better than the tortured music teacher from the school where her uncle is the principal.

I loved their connection, it’s clear that they can see each other’s pain and are able to provide support that only those with shared experiences could. Reese gave Sarah the time and space to open up about her experiences. While Sarah gave Reese the compassion and kindness he needed to really process all the pain that he has been through.

If you’re looking for a frustratingly angsty and simultaneously touching story of pain, heartbreak, growth and mutual understanding then this is the book for you.
