The book uses loads of references to (pop) culture of the different time periods. I didn't find it to be subtle at all, it felt like one name-drop after the other.
There is less romance in it than i expected.
There was a significant difference in the time we spent in the different timelines. This made the story feel imbalanced.
It gets existential towards the end. For some reason i didn't feel the existentialism, arguably the main conflict, had enough payoff in the end(ing).

Graphic: Death, Misogyny, Death of parent, War, and Classism
Moderate: Alcoholism and Colonisation
Minor: Eating disorder and Racism
