knowing that Mary Shelley was 18 when she wrote this, it feels terribly right to be reading it at this point in my life. i am certain that, if one indulges themselves in knowing and understanding Mary Shelley and her experiences, your reading of this book will be MASSIVELY enhanced. if you take anything from me before reading, let it be this: anything you think you know about Victor Frankenstein and the creature, throw it out the window. though i do love the frankenstein films i have seen, that was never the story Mary Shelley was trying to tell. it was never just about a “mad scientist” and a green monster, and it saddens me for her that that is all it has been reduced to in mass media. i see you Mary Shelley.
