A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

adventurous hopeful mysterious medium-paced

5.0

Wow! This book, "A Gathering of Shadows," completely blew me away! Unlike the first book in the series, "A Darker Shade of Magic," which I didn't enjoy as much, this one delivered everything I had hoped for. The character development and emotional depth were outstanding. The world-building in this installment felt so much more immersive, and I found myself forming a strong connection with Red London and appreciating the marvels of Black. The plot development was incredibly satisfying, especially in terms of unraveling the complexities of magic, which was something I craved from the first book.

The tournament aspect of the story was a highlight for me, as it allowed for an exploration of the vast possibilities of magic. All the characters in this book, including Kell (who still isn't my favorite but did improve), contributed to making this an exceptional read. Delilah, in particular, continued to be an amazing and badass character, and her personal journey took me on a thrilling adventure. Additionally, I found myself fond of Rhys and all the other secondary characters.

The development of the Vitari, the exploration of Black London, and the introduction of our new villain were brilliantly executed. Schwab skillfully provided us with just enough morsels of information at the end of each section, leaving me eagerly anticipating what would come next. Experiencing this book through audio was a fantastic choice, and it heightened my enjoyment even further.

I can't wait to dive into the final book of the series. "A Gathering of Shadows" has left me with a sense of anticipation and excitement that I'm eager to carry forward.
