I’m not sure why I resisted picking up The Great Alone for so long. Maybe it was the hype, or the number of people who recommended it to me, or...I don’t know, the fact that I thought I wouldn’t be into a story about Alaska.

Boy was I wrong! I devoured this story about Leni, her mom Cora, Ernt, her troubled Vietnam-vet father, Matthew, Leni’s first love, Large Marge, the woman taking care of the whole community, and the rest of the strong willed characters living and thriving on the on the Kenai peninsula in Alaska.

It’s a story about love and survival of all kinds, and I’m so glad I read it. I loved it so much that I reread the last two chapters twice because I didn’t want it to be over. I highly recommend reading this if you haven’t already (but you probably have).
