If you loved, “Archer’s Voice”, and were curious to see more of Travis, then this book gave you everything into Travis’s life after the events in the other book, and expanded more on who Travis Hale really was. In addition, there was a new girl in the town of Pelion, who’s name was Haven Torres and happened to strike up a friendship with Travis, which eventually led to more. This story also had a little bit of friends with benefits, strangers to friends to lovers, small town, family, and more. 

Obviously in “Archer’s Voice”, the main focus was on Bree and Archer, and Travis wasn’t necessarily my favorite character especially with the way he treated Archer, but thankfully over the years Travis tried mending his relationship with Archer. In the book, it was set a few years later and Travis was still chief of police, but was still dealing with some internal issues such as, his mom’s betrayal, feeling excluded from others, and feeling like he was always “second best”. From Travis’s point of view, a lot of his issues came from childhood which still troubled him as an adult, and I could understand why he felt the way that he did. In a way, by Travis having his own story told, I got to see more of him, and he wasn’t an entirely bad person as I thought of him previous back in “Archer’s Voice”. Travis redeemed himself, and although Travis acknowledged that not everything he said or did could ever be erased, he always tried his best to right his wrongs, be the best uncle to his nephews and niece, and work on his brotherly relationship with Archer.

I loved seeing Archer and Bree still come out in this story because even after many years later, those two are the absolutely sweetest and make me so happy. Meanwhile, Travis felt like he was intruding on their cute moments, and felt like a constant reminder of what he didn’t have which was a family of his own, a wife, a relationship, etc. Poor Travis, he really did have his own problems to work through, but with the arrival of a certain new someone (cough) by the name of, Haven, Travis started to see things in a different light. 

Haven wasn’t the typical girl that Travis went for. Haven was all about plants, the wildest curly hair, simple, laid back, and sweet. I honestly liked Haven, she seemed like a good match for Travis because, she brought out something in Travis that he never felt before and after everything Travis had been going through, it was like she was a breathe of fresh air to him. In addition, it was like opposites attract since Travis and Haven were interested in different things, yet they were able to find a natural flow between each other. 

Travis and Haven’s chemistry was good, I’m a sucker for when the main leads can’t help but always think about each other, and finally when they can’t take it anymore, they finally give in! So when Travis and Haven had their… fun in the lake, and then in Haven’s bedroom I was like, “OMG YASS!” Haha but there was also an underlying deep emotional connection that Haven and Travis had in their intimate moments. Mia Sheridan always does a great job of having multiple layers to not only her characters, but also in their actions such as, Haven and Travis’s conversations, etc. So while I did enjoy those passion filled moments that Haven and Travis had, I also loved reading their inner dialogue explaining their true feelings towards one another. 

Travis in a way was a man with a mission, he wanted Haven for himself, but at the same time he was put into a position he had never been before where HE was the one going after the girl. In addition, Travis was both opening himself up to Haven by telling her things he had never told anyone that just goes to show much Travis felt comfortable with her, and trusted that he could confide in her. Haven was understanding to Travis’s fears about his past, and even when she found out about his dad, and Archer, she never judged him harshly like the others in Calliope (rich town on other side of Pelion) had. 

Overall, the story was good. I loved learning more about Travis and getting to meet Haven. Travis and Haven were a sweet couple who brought out the best in each other and Travis strived to become a better man for Haven. If you’ve read, “Archer’s Voice”, I would say give this book a chance and not only will you see some beloved characters such as, Bree and Archer but also feel the nostalgia that is Pelion.
