Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth
dark

5.0
I honestly enjoyed all 600+ pages of this book and I have never wanted to watch a fictional movie so badly.
Did this book have problems with focus and pacing and pull too many of it’s horror punches? Absolutely.
But even despite those things, I was still so charmed by the stories being told and the narrator telling them. (I’m a sucker for any book with footnotes.) The fun that the author had writing this was infectious; there was a self-indulgence to the story that I enjoyed (like the illustrations that crept into the images and how none of the speaking characters were straight). I was left wanting to know more about the Verrett’s and our three heroines, but not frustratingly so. Overall, it was just really fun!
