The Kingdom of Gods by N.K. Jemisin

3.0

One of the most ambitious fantasy novels I've read in a while, which is why I'm hesitant to mark it down. I definitely enjoyed the Dreamblood books a lot more (and I know I haven't reviewed those though they were what prompted me to pick up The Inheritance Trilogy again. I'll probably do that when I re-read them come the new year), and now that I'm doing comparisons, I guess I should also say that The Broken Kingdoms is in many ways (character-building, world-building, and well, sheer coherency) superior. I'm also sorely tempted to say that The Kingdom of Gods would have benefited from being broken down into two or three or four smaller books, though perhaps it befits the scale of the hundred thousand kingdoms and the gods that inhabit it that this tale be told all at once in its entirety.
