The Uncatchable Miss Faversham by Elizabeth Moss

1.0

It's exactly the type of plot I enjoy reading but the execution was not good. Filled with misunderstandings and grudges that the reader is left waiting to understand for most of the book (that turned out not to be much in the end, considering the overblown reaction).

The heroine is meh and the hero I disliked greatly. He is very rapey (he has a huge, blatant issue with consent on multiple occasions) with no confidence and I didn't like or respect him at all. There is a good way to write a hero with self-esteem issues and doubts about self-worth and appearance. This wasn't it.

It was also pretty confusing how suddenly she had a reputation when we started the book with her being esteemed and wanted and with no negative reputation, with everyone vying for her favors. Suddenly she's known as loose? Since when? Based on what? She wouldn't have said anything and nor would the hero, so...?

All in all, nothing made sense, I didn't like a single character, zero plot decisions were rational, and suddenly they were just together at the end. The chemistry was so-so. I didn't care about them at all.

I kept reading, expecting it to get better because I enjoyed the author's Tudor series a lot. This must be a much earlier offering and she got better. I'd skip this one if I were trying to decide whether to read it.
