These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

3.0

The premise of this book was great, I just wish it moved a lil bit faster. Half the book was spent with an extremely angsty Juliette as well which I didn't really like since she felt so unlikeable that I really wanted to switch to someone else's POV. I liked Roma as a character a lot more than I did Juliette because he seemed to be much more than just a gentle boy born in a tough family, and I wish I had gotten to see more from his POV rather than our angry angry Juliette.

The book really redeemed itself near the end for me, though I struggled through the first half of it. The plot only got exciting probably in the last third, while it was chasing a lot of random red herrings through the first two thirds. Like ok, plot but also that took way longer than it needed to.

I might pick up the second book if I had another reading challenge that needed it. Otherwise I may wait quite awhile before picking up the next book just because of how slow this one was.
