I was genuinely surprised by how low rated this is (in comparison to TJR's other books anyway).
I am now convinced that this woman can do no wrong in the 'writing a good book' department. Although this wasn't my favourite of hers and it's clear how much she has grown as a writer since her old work (especially given that there were a few elements here that were a little but 'products of their time'), her narrative voice is the closest thing to perfect for me. She can suck me into a story and its characters like nobody else, and I genuinely don't know how to explain the hold her writing has on me.
