Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
4.0
Well, well, well, well.
"like calls to like"
If you enjoyed book one, you'll enjoy book two.
The world has gotten a little more scarier, the villans little more angrier, and the stakes a little more higher? That's how I explain this book.
But apparently everyone does not see it that way?
Every villain has a story, and The Darkling is one of those villains that you just gotta love throughout the book. He is her equal in all things considered but she does not want him and that's what makes me enjoy this book. When was the last time you found a book where the dark, mysterious good-looking guy is not the perfect choice for our heroine? Can't think of many can you? I can think of one: Dara in the Daveabad trilogy. And that's probably why I enjoyed it.
People ragged the fuck out of Mal in this, but god damn, I found myself siding with him a lot. People seem to forget that these 'people' are teenagers. So they're going to act like teens with a shit ton of stuff on their shoulders. In this case, their whole world. Plus: Mal has been hiding a love for her for ages and its just now when his feelings are coming out more openly does he have to think that the person he loves may fall to darkness... because, again, "like calls to like".
I loved Nikolai, he was an interesting character to bring into the fray. However, I enjoyed him more when he was the rogue pirate of the skies and not the guy who was constantly trying to flirt/win over Alaina. I got tired of it pretty fucking fast. Then again, the fact that I knew he was doing it made me feel better than seeing her go down that path 'accidentally cheating' and then a whole side plot opens up about that.
The ending was good, and I always enjoy how the story ends each time as if it was a fable. I eagerly devoured book three. So I'll cook up my review about that one.

Spoiler
I think what is making me angry is that in a world of Reylo, in a world of evil little shits, there have to be some weird people that ship the Alaina and the Darkling. I mean, okay, maybe you ship it, go ahead. But in the context of this world? In no fucking way would that work. Alaina would have to have a lobotomy and become evil... or, the Daarkling would have to be woobified... for that to work. I mean, I give her props.Every villain has a story, and The Darkling is one of those villains that you just gotta love throughout the book.
