The Call of the Void by S.M. Gaither

adventurous dark mysterious slow-paced

2.0

It's a shame this book wasn't better. I came close to DNFing a few times and even read a couple short stories in between reading this book. It was grammatically well written but boring, lots of expo dumps and the plot felt like it was pretty weak compared to the first two books. Our MC never grows as a person and the world building is great but boy was I sick of reading just one big description of their surrounding.

There's a lot of useless information, lots of  thoughtlessness and stupidity from our characters that make them seem whiny and incompetent. There's a constant need for them to be close to one another otherwise they turn into  mopping messes and are unable to do anything. You're in the middle of a war. There are times you have to separate to be a good leader.  Not too mention the death Gods mark. They mention the ability to transfer it multiple times, but nobody thinks to give it to the current god of death, Elander!

There's no consistency with the magic system. Why can she master it one minute and then barley use it the next? Things are mention in the first book that are never brought up again. The characters become less interesting and the surprises really aren't that surprising. And they die and come back so frequently you'd think it was an episode of supernatural. Idk how we've fallen so low but if I hadn't already bought the other two books I wouldn't continue on
