Paper Towns by John Green

I don't know why I torture myself with reading John Green's books. Other than to shut people up in saying "I'm obviously not reading the right ones because he's such a great author". Which he's not but that's my opinion and not the opinion of others.
I often feel like I'm in a severe minority of people who don't like his books. As of this, I've read 2 of his books. The first was TFIOS and that was while I was waiting for a manager to get out of the meeting they were in so they could interview me to work at a bookstore so I occupied my time by reading a book (and this was around the time it had recently come out or everyone was talking about how great it was or something). I was wholly unimpressed and had multiple people telling me after how wrong I was (in fact I still do have people telling me how wrong I am in my dislike of the book and for those who want to tell me that about this book or that, go ahead and come at me. My taste is obviously different than yours and we're not going to agree).
Anyway, MPDG makes me feel like vomitting. Yeah supposedly this book is suppose to subvert the trope and be a deconstruction. It doesn't and isn't. Fuck it takes 199 pages for Q to come to this realisation: "She was not an adventure. She was not a fine and precious thing. She was a girl." I'm so sick of this thing in pop culture (movies and tv shows and books) that girls aren't seen as people. They're mysterious. And precious. And an entirely different species. They're not. THEY'RE PEOPLE. We need to stop perpetuating this trope bullshit that girls are alien.
The first chapter feels like it took me by the hand and walked me through constantly reminding me of things that happened because obviously I can't remember one paragraph to the next. -_- It's initializing and insulting. And if I never have to read the name Margo Roth Speigelman again it will be too soon. Using full names repeatedly is ANNOYING AS SHIT.
So, if you are a fan of John Green, by all means read this book. If you're not and don't like MPDG, DON'T.
