Poems That Make Grown Men Cry: 100 Men on the Words That Move Them by Anthony Holden
3.0
I’d give this 3.5 stars if that were possible. This poetry anthology is an assemblage of poets and their works as presented by famous writers, artists, journalists, musicians, actors, and others in the arts. Depending on who you are there is most likely someone or some work in here that you will personally connect with. I really enjoyed the introduction to each piece (by the person whim submitted it for the collection) as much as the poems themselves. What I liked most about this was that the contributors would interpret crying in every way possible: sadness, grief, joy, laughter, love, beauty, death, nostalgia, parents, children, lovers, friends, pets, etc. It’s an eclectic collection crossing time, boundary, and language. There were about a dozen or so that were my favorites and I did shed a few tears in joy, empathy and grief. All contributors were men but some of the poets were women. Maybe I should say 3.75 and round up to 4 stars instead. I might come back and change that.
