Mating in Captivity: Reconciling the Erotic and the Domestic by Esther Perel

informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

4.0

The main thesis of the book is discussing the tension between intimacy and desire, and Perel offers an examination into what's needed to maintain eroticism in long term relationships. Though the majority of the couples presented as examples in the book are cis-het monogamous relationships, there's still a lot to be gained from the insights Perel provides. I picked this up curious to see what I might glean from this, approaching the book from the lens of the pandemic holding us all captive for the last year and a half. Even though I'm polyamorous, there was plenty for me to chew on and think anyone in a longterm relationship in any configuration would still benefit from a lot of the ideas here.
