It has been a very long wait for me to continue this epic tale of a Nation that has been overrun by a Government experiment gone wrong, VERY wrong. I remember when I first read the passage I remember loving the fact that it was so unlike any other vampire novel i had read previously. They didn't sparkle or fall on love with teenage girls. They ripped people apart and didn't think anything of it.
In The Twelve the story continues with Amy and her quest to find answers to the questions that were left once Wolgast left her on her own. During the course of the novel we follow not only Amy but an array of characters that delve into the world that seems to real when you are reading it. The one thing that I found a little disheartening in this novel was the volume of characters that I had to follow throughout the book. I found that I got confused really easily as to who was who and because we switch switched years I felt like there were a lot of connections that I might have missed.
Now I have to talk about the writing because it was beautiful and tragic at the same time. While I was reading I found myself seeing every scene playing in my mind and it was amazing! It literally felt like this book could be developed into a movie...a very long movie but a great movie none the less.
I will warn everyone that there are some VERY graphic scenes in this book and at times I felt myself cringing at the images that were described but I loved every second of it because it was so different from all of the other Vampire books that I have read. The Twelve is more about the aftermath concerning citizens rather than the vampires themselves but it is still a great read for horror fans and literary fans as well. I really enjoyed this sequel, not as much as The Passage, but still quite enjoyed the characters and the direction the story took near the end(which was nowhere near where I thought it would go).
