Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie

I nearly gave up on this book at around 60% and man I wish I had.

A found footage haunted asylum ghost hunter story seemed like it would be an immersive experience conjuring some chills, however it read like a made for tv movie written by someone who has never met people before.

The thing that bothered me the most were the journal entries during media res moments. Another bothering thing was when they arrived in the labyrinth created by supernatural forces they went to sleep??? Whattt???

Jessica was a selfish idiot and I regret giving a shit about her at the beginning, Claire’s character started acting out and I don’t believe the type of person she was would have behaved like she did. Claire and Matt’s relationship was sickly and I had to skim read her final few journal entries because it made me gag.

I think the found footage thing was a gimmick and it didn’t come together very well. The only thing I appreciated was the imagery of the spooky things was well written and easy to picture. And the physical book itself was nice to hold.

Maybe it’s because I’m British but this book was cringe.
