You absolutely cannot go wrong with Steve Cavanagh for a bit of dark escapism with some genius plotting and always unexpected twists. This was my fourth Eddie Flynn novel, and I got a bit cocky thinking I had the ending sussed. Actually, what I'd done was fall for every red herring and apparent loose end there was, so I was still pretty surprised by the end!

I absolutely love the courtroom scenes in these books. I'm sure they're completely unrealistic but there's just never time for them to get boring or filled with procedure. Flynn uses his past to hustle his way to success and it's a joy to read.

The stories are filled with excellent drama and tension, but they also handle emotional moments sensitively. I was even welling up by the time I got to the end of this one, and found myself really attached to some of the characters (which was fully intended and quickly exploited by the story).

Once I've finished a Flynn book I do tend to struggle to differentiate them, though this may stick with me for longer because I think it's my favourite so far.
