I think Shift had a much richer story than Silo and that the character development, while still not my fave aspect of the story, was a bit better than the first installment. I really enjoyed learning more of the history of the Silos - how they were built, why they were built, and who built them. It's actually a pretty crazy concept to think on, and it sounds so very American lol

The characters in this book were not super-likable, but tolerable. Anna and Donald kind of infuriated me. Donald being such a pushover for 3/4 of the book was a real drag. He was pretty lifeless until the end, and honestly I still don't really understand his motivations and his intentions are a little unclear to me.

Still, I'm enjoying this series a lot and I just started the next book and am looking forward to seeing how this story concludes.

OH, also...the entire story about Solo, is utterly heartbreaking. You've been warned.
