Secret at Mystic Lake by Carolyn Keene

4.0

This is the first of the Nancy Drew Diaries to fall flat for me. The conflict between Bess and George felt forced since it's the first time in six books that their opposite-ness has been played as opposition. It was also very clear the whole time that [REDACTED] was the saboteur, although I admit that the twist with the missing person was a pretty good twist. But the red herring character was telegraphed as a red herring from their name alone, and that was disappointing. Maybe I'm just SO not outdoorsy that even a book about camping is too much outdoorsiness for me.
