Regan and Colton's mail-order marriage gets off to a rocky start when she shoots him (mistakenly). They find their way to love (and lots of hot sex, because this is Miz Bev writing) and form a workable family for his young daughter. There was a point where the relationship drama seemed resolved and there was still a bunch of book to go -- there was more left to one of the side plots than I realized -- and that felt like a bit of a structural misstep. Still, yet another splendid historical novel from Jenkins, full of characters it's easy to like and care about and fact-based history with an insight into the lives of POC in the American West.
Moderate: Kidnapping
