I Know Who Did It by Steve Mosby

4.0

I've had this book sitting on my bookcase for absolutely ages and to be perfectly honest I should have read it a long time ago. Now that I have, I'm delighted to say that based upon the strength of this novel I've purchased a further six.

The story follows two paths. On the one hand we have Detective David Groves who receives a birthday card addressed to his young son containing the words 'I know who did it.' His son is dead; having been abducted, murdered, and buried in the woods. We then have Detective Mark Nelson, also with a tragic past, investigating the reappearance of woman who died in a car accident two years earlier. How is this even possible?!

The plot switches seamlessly between Groves and Nelson; as do the timelines. We follow the investigations as they take a multitude of twists and turns, before discovering how the cases are interlinked during a tense and exciting conclusion.

The story is intricate and cleverly constructed; the writing faultless. Characters are developed into people who feel solid and real (no one-dimensional cardboard cutouts here!). It pulls at the heartstrings and is an emotional read. A thrilling book from start to finish.
