The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

4.0

Goodness gracious! I don't know what to say. Mostly because I'm still digesting it. I mean this book is like an inch thick (or 16 hours if your listening to the audio, which I was. And thank goodness because I probably never would have gotten through this without it.) so there's a lot to discuss.

Let's start with the premise. This guy, the main character, wakes up and is told he has to solve the murder of Evelyn Hardcastle. He has eight days and each day he wakes up in a different host. So basically it's like a combination of Happy Death Day and Every Day: A Novel.

The book hits the ground running and kind of throws you into the middle of the story. The reader has to pick things up and figure things out which at times can be a bit confusing but stick with it. The ending is very surprising.

The writing was great. It flowed from sentence to sentence and Turton uses great descriptions and metaphors.

In a very short time, I became attached to all the characters and was kept guessing until the end. All in all, this novel is stunning and eloquently written.
