‘When fear is your friend, who needs enemies?’
Lexie Rogers is an experienced police officer, a detective, about to embark on her first big undercover assignment. As Lara Wild, she’ll be involved in exposing a huge drug dealing ring in Sydney. It’s dangerous work, which suddenly becomes more complicated when the past intrudes. And, as Lexie embarks undercover, her boyfriend Josh is on the NSW north coast tracking down marijuana growers. Lexie’s usual work partner, Brad, is caught up in an explosion and her mentor Rex is in danger.

Enter a world where large egos and sleazy behaviour are the norm. Everyone has an angle, and there are quite a few dislikeable villains. And in the policing world, there are a few issues as well. There’s no shortage of action in this novel, but it’s difficult to say more about the various threads to the story without spoiling the novel for a first-time reader. There are a few twists, and suitable cliff-hangers, before the end.
This is the third book in a series to feature Lexie Rogers, and because I’ve not yet read the first two, there were elements of the backstory that don’t (yet) fit neatly into place for me. This novel can be read as a standalone, but I think it would be best to read the series in order.
I enjoyed the novel, rapidly turning pages to see how it would all end. I’ve added the other novels in the series to my reading list.
