This was absolutely delectable. For me, probably better than Just Kids, albeit very different. Less of a memoir, more of an exploration and reflection on Patti Smith's life. I think it's impossible to read this and not be struck by the extreme loss that Smith has endured - and yet, having read Just Kids, I know that this goes beyond what was mentioned in M Train (Robert Mapplethorpe being absent). Throughout it all, Smith remains full of grace and has a remarkable ability for exquisite writing. I've barely listened to her music, but I'm now even more keen to read more of her writing; I received her Book of Days for Valentine's Day, and am desperate to dive into that also. This has really inspired me to write - and to create, and to think - more.
