I read this in one day, first time in a long time that a text has drawn me in to the point of feeling I can’t put it down. This book was very beautiful to me. I related a lot to the religious musings of the characters/author. The characters were well written and had depth, I appreciated that there was a level of humanity to even the worst of characters, by the end of the book there were very few that I still felt anger towards (except for Pa that man was just a weird pedo). The explorations of race, feminism, sexuality, and human nature were all very intriguing. It all read well because it was clear these were subjects the author was well versed in and cared about. I cried a bit at the end. There was always an underlying hopefulness, and I’m glad the characters got a fulfilling ending.
