The Princess Bride by William Goldman

4.0

Clever book. Cute story, interwoven with the author's comments and thoughts. It isn't earth shattering and some of the characters can be a little grating (could Buttercup please be a little less tepid and a little new assertive?) but it is a sweet story with some excellent sarcastic pokes at love ad adventure. Having seen the movie, there are no surprising plot twists to keep you engaged and at times the book feels a little heavy and bogged down by Goldman's interjections. However, at the end, when you have done your research and you know exactly who wrote what, you are still left feeling a little bit unsettled. But what if? How about the sequel? But Morgenstern? Did Goldman really pull this off? He never lets the facade down and that in itself is worth the read.
