Wow! Wow! Wow!
I have read books with Stockholm syndrome before and most of them follow the same basic plot line and we either end with the heroine falling in love or an imprisonment situation that only gets darker.
But this book exceeded all of my expectations. Raven is a fantastic author and I’m seriously blown away by get storylines and her characters. I must say though, she has outdone herself with Auren.
Auren started off as a naive girl in love with the king. And to be honest, I was in love with king Midas too because he is personable and we only really saw him through Auren’s point of view. We didn’t know how evil he truly was. Everything he did made it seem as if Auren was the one who wanted all of this. As if everything Midas did actually kept her save.
But no, he went through years of training her to believe that she couldn’t be strong without him. That everything he did was in Auren’s best interest. And as long as Auren stayed with him, she would forever be safe.
What makes this book so amazing is that we finally get to see Auren take back the life that was stolen from her. She had always been strong, but know she is starting to realize that too. It was so gratifying to watch Auren slowly come to terms with her own strength. She began to make decisions for herself and became her own hero. It was amazing to watch.
Also, I love Rip. Gods he is perfection.
I need book 4 now.
