Juste la fin du monde by Jean-Luc Lagarce

  • Plot- or character-driven? Character
Actually this is a hit, I'm a fan. You have to strap in and be patient during the entire first act because the characters talk in a very insufferable way, even if you write essays on the play which makes it so that you know why they talk this way, it still doesn't make it easier to read. HOWEVER act 2 and especially scene 3 is where the play totally finds its footing for me, I cried. The relationship between the two brothers is very touching and fascinating to dissect. Antoine's character buildup leads to an extremely satisfying conclusion in this scene.
Definitely worth a try even outside of school work!
