The Dark Angel by Elly Griffiths

5.0

This is one of my favorites in the series so far! Not only does it take place in Italy and provide a fun-to-read holiday vibe and premise, there is so much development of the relationships in the book, especially between Ruth and Nelson and Michelle, that the mystery is *almost* superfluous.

And finally, FINALLY, there is acknowledgement by Ruth that "...fat is a feminist issue. Just because she doesn't conform to society's ideal of what a woman should look like, it doesn't mean she should feel ashamed, she should celebrate her curves." It's about damn time, Griffiths! Unfortunately, this early recognition doesn't stop further internal and external negative commentary on Ruth's weight.

The ending is tragic (the only part I didn't like, as it eliminates some of the tension built up through the series) and leaves much up in the air so I'm eager to start the next one!
