Dragons Are a Girl's Best Friend by Isla Frost

Action, adventure and magic

We follow Lyra, a human in a magical world in which supernaturals have infected, or gifted, depending on your perspective, humans with magic to even the playing field and reduce persecution as a result of discrimination. It is questionable how successful this strategy was when extremists employ anti-magic devices designed to, essentially, kill of magical beings in an effort to get their hands on an all powerful artefact.
Lyra is a young police-like figure in the community and, although she is suspended for misconduct nothing will stop her from protecting her family.
I liked the pace and the plot. There are hints of romance to come but no sparks for me just yet. Lots of action and a snarky dragon partner to keep things interesting.
