Courting Samira: A Novel by Amal Awad

4.25

I really liked this! I loved how the Muslim courting ritual complicates the classic western romance plot—this book kept me guessing and it followed a different formula than I’m used to. Samira and her friends navigate Muslim dating traditions within Sydney society, and the similarities of anxiety, swooniness, and hope were only made more interesting by their juxtaposition of the differences in dating rituals. I’m looking forward to seeing more Hijabi romances published!
