Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

5.0

After watching the CBC adaption and thoroughly enjoying it I thought I'd pick up the original work.

I finished the last pages with tear stained cheeks and a smile on my face. Anne's sheer
positivity and gratitude was refreshing. Montgomery perfectly showed how Anne matured, her quick temper and constant grudges faded as she progressed through the book, slowly learning about herself and others around her. The budding of her and Gilbert's friendship was a true example of this.

Today we so easily forget the small aspects of beauty in our lives, Anne's sudden appreciation for spring when Josie started teasing her about the Avery scholarship was beautiful-

'that may make me feel badly tomorrow Josie, but just now I honestly feel that as long as I know the violets are coming out all purple down in the hollow below Green Gables and that little ferns are poking their heads up in Lovers' Lane its not a great deal of difference whether I win the Avery or not.'.

As a young girl sitting her GCSE exams soon, it made me reflect on how caught up we can get in a whirlwind of anxiety. I now want to relish in all the most romantic parts of my youth all the more.

I'm surprised I'd never even heard of Anne until recently but I'm so glad I have now.
