Das Seidenraupenzimmer by Sayaka Murata
5.0
I don't know what I just read. I don't know how to describe this.
Easily the most uncomfortable, disturbing book I have ever read.
Murata takes the theme of nonconformity with society that she explored in Convenience Store Woman and multiplies it in weirdness and craziness by a thousand.
Ultimately, this is a story about a group of people that respond to childhood trauma by rejecting society and even humanity, breaking all possible societal taboos on their way. I found myself gasping and muttering "No, no, no" while listening to the audiobook. I rarely have these visceral reactions to anything I read or watch.
For such a short book, it sure packed a punch.
Trigger warnings for everything. I mean it.
