Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

2.0

I loved the 1st and 2nd act of the book but the 3rd act fell short of expectations (that were low to begin with considering how pessimistic I am). I had no sympathy or love for
Aleksander
whatsoever, so Leigh’s attempts at making
Alina
sorry for him was just not it, especially after what he did and the
deaths he caused
. I loved the supporting Grisha and Nikolai in this book tho, even when the cast felt crowded and it was hard to keep track of everyone.

I feel like 3rd amplifier’s reasoning behind it wasn’t as fleshed out as it could’ve been which made it feel a little flat, but I still enjoyed it. It was fitting for the story tho.

I think Leigh backed herself into a little bit of a corner, and had to right a few too many twists and turns to make everything fit nicely. Pacing was incredibly weird, but writing’s hard and I enjoyed the series overall. I’m still gonna read six of crows and king of scars lol
