Midnight's Lair by Richard Kelly

3.0

A group of tourists take an tour of underground caverns named Mordock’s Cave. Then a fire in the hotel above traps them with a power failure, which is no reason to panic. The tour guides decide to look for another exit and when they break through into another cave, they unleash the psycho cannibals that live in the dark.

This was a creepy and wonderfully disturbing book and you can put yourself in the position of the scared tourists. Amongst the group is creepy Kyle, son of the hotel owner, both of whom are responsible for the rape of countless young women and whose bodies they feed to the cannibals below. He knows what is out there in the dark but he lets the chaos happen to cover his attempts to rape a young girl on the tour with him.

The reactions of the different tourists to the crisis are just what you would expect in this situation and it was a real rollercoaster ride of horror and gore. Lovely!
