The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson

5.0

do you know that feeling you get when a book absolutely destroys you?

it’s exactly that, but this time, it was not a knife to the heart. IT WAS A KNIFE TO THE BACK.

everytime i think i have something figured out in a Mistborn book, I haven’t. this was the perfect sequel to an almost perfect first book. i was a bit skeptical about the premiss of this book, but brandon sanderson has a way of building a narrative from the ashes of the last book.

i honestly have such a good time reading these books. they have a way of making me forget everything around me and just lose myself in this story and in these characters.
these characters become friends of yours. their worries become your worries, their victories make you proud, you cheer for them and you weep their losses.

elend, and everything he stands for, is probably one of the best aspects of this book. the concept of a good, honest man becoming a respected, important, authoritative figure made me hopeful, somehow.
Vin is one of the strongest, smartest, best female characters ever, in my opinion. the way she figures herself out, along with her place in the world? just really relatable, even though, you know, she’s a mistborn saving cities and i’m writing a book review on my phone.

this is the new fantasy series i recommend to everyone. like “oh, so you like incredible world building, a mind blowing magic system, compelling characters and just overall a great ride? pick up these books”.
