Mary Magdalene: Women, the Church, and the Great Deception by Adriana Valerio

3.0

A scholarly look at a figure much maligned by mainstream Christian denominations. Theologian Valerio digs deep into the Gnostic Gospels as well as a broad survey of poetry, art, fiction, and theological treatments in several languages and across a broad swathe of history to present a refreshing version of Mary Magdelene as the "Apostle of Apostles," a leading figure in the early Christian church, and a supremely important saint in her own right. Fascinating stuff from a slim volume that covers a lot of ground.
