Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

5.0

What a curious thing as a reader to go into a book under one opinion, only to come out the other side with a completely different one. I love that this book was influenced by World War I because it lends a sense of nostalgia and hopelessness surrounding a doomed romance. A Testament of Youth, a wonderful autobiography by Vera Brittain, was another influence. Vera Britain, being one of the greatest literary voices of her generation, lent a vivid portrait of how an entire generation became so disillusioned with war. History would name them The Lost Generation. Divine Rivals, while appropriately toned down for a younger audience, reminds readers of that. By the end of the book, you’re questioning, if the narrators know the truth, or if their truth is the lie.

I hope book two allows for more secondary character development. And what I know of Iris’s brother Forrest, I do not like so far.
