The Client by Jessica Gadziala

3.0

It actually PAINS me to write this review. It actually does. The Professionals series has been a firm favourite of mine for the longest time and I have been waiting with baited breath for Fenway's story since the beginning.

I loved the premise of this, the playboy and the conwoman. Absolutely here for it. I just felt that this book had zero tension. There was no clear motivation/stakes raised when Wasp was asked to break his heart. Wasn't she curious who? How? Why? Nope, she just cracked on and cast no other thought as to who might it be.

For a professional conwoman, she was a terrible conwoman. They spent all of 5 minutes together and she was falling for him... huh? There was barely anything there, barely an attraction and suddenly they couldn't get enough of one another.

Then there was the reveal of who actually asked her to break his hear... SO LAME. I can't even.

There was so little tension that even when Fenway found out he had been played, he... did... nothing... He forgave her immediately. All is good in the world. When he found out who paid her... no big deal. All's good.

Small irritation: there were SO many grammatical issues in the beginning, didn't impact the story but I was surprised as this is never an issue for JG.

It looks like we're going to get a few more stories from the new professional employees yet, so I'm really hoping they bring it back - because this series is so so good.
