Unruly: A History of England's Kings and Queens by David Mitchell

funny informative fast-paced

4.0

I listened to this an audiobook, and on the whole, I enjoyed it.

It was informative and engaging, with a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. David Mitchell’s begrudging enthusiasm for history shines through.

I found that pre-1066, I struggled to keep up with the names, dates and places. Mitchell really does a whistle-stop tour of all of the known English rulers, but it could be difficult to follow along if you don’t already have a vague knowledge. After 1066, where my general knowledge improves, I found it easier to keep up.

My only other comment is that it would be better to read/listen in small doses. I find Mitchell’s humour slightly exhausting sometimes. Otherwise, I would recommend it!
