The Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan
4.0
This book was hilarious and cute, and for that I have mostly fond feelings towards it.
The series as a whole I think is weaker than it could be, and it feels unoriginal especially when set next to other things that Rick has written (most of which I read as a kid, so maybe not the most unbiased opinion). Everything is super straight forward, there’s a task to complete and some steps to get there so we do it. Not a lot of twists, the creativity of these books come from the depictions of the modern gods, but I’m just not sure it’s enough for me.
In the context of this series I think this book is great. But I think the series could be better, and maybe isn’t suited for the kind of reader I am now, and it makes me wish I read The Sword of Summer back in 2015 when it came out.
I love Alex, favorite pink and green (usually) human. I loved the cameos. I loved getting to learn a little more about the main characters, and I’m gonna miss these kiddos.
