Demons Not Included by Cheyenne McCray

1.0

One and a half stars.

It is the type of story that would normally appeal to me and I wanted to like it but I felt it was a written version of paint by the numbers with no depth or reality to the characters. I am not quite sure how to describe it. It almost felt like the author had a checklist when she was writing (bad ass heroine, hot normal guy, hot paranormal guy, sassy best friend, paranormal crime fighting etc) but didn't actually care about the story or the characters enough to make them feel real. Conversely it there was also an element of try hard about this book. It was incredibly cliche and I never cared about the heroine. The closest she came with a character I would have had any interest in finding out about was Olivia who is infinitely more interesting than the heroine. I didn't even finish this one. I was very disappointed because I have read other stuff by this author that was not as bad. That being said I liked the idea behind the story and I have read reviews that the next 2 books are better than the first so I may give the series one more chance.
