The Herd by Andrea Bartz

3.0

I read this book quickly and found it compelling the entire way through. Neither Hana nor Katie’s narrative voices were distinct enough. The author slipped into show don’t tell. The pacing was great, but instead of indicting the pop culture capitalist feminism at the heart of this novel, it served to only really indict the one person at the helm of it. I wish it had more to say about what it means when a company runs on a cult of personality or about social media as whole. Also, I find it exhausting when characters hold on to information from the reader simply because it makes narrative sense to do so.
