One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

5.0

Oh my lord did I love it, geez.
I loved seriously everything about this book, everything. The story, the mystery, the characters, the romance but most of all (I wanna cry at how good it was) the character development.
Character development is so SO important, and most authors just let the story do it for them but no, you NEED to think about the character development separately and make the story follow it because in the end, it's the characters you fall in love with not the story no matter how amazing it is. And Karen M. McManus did exactly just that.
I was glued to this book, seriously. My rule is that when I am simultaneously reading other books, I should read an equal amount of each book but I couldn't after I started this. One clever way the author has us glued is by introducing numerous suspiciously intriguing arcs which in the end lead to nowhere but keeps us preoccupied. But in the end, somehow all of these arcs blow up into one and gives us the best showdown ever.
Back to character development because it deserves a Nobel prize, the characters are so unlikeable and stereotypical in the starting but as the story progresses, forget who was guilty of the murder, you are more in awe of how these characters come out of their stereotypes and own their world.
About the mystery, one of the best I have ever read. It's simple, interesting, plot-twisty, and just wholesome entertainment.
Just drop everything and read this everyone.
